Beth Holtam, who created the role of music teacher at LEAP workshops, will be sitting out this year, helping husband, Jordan, with Sierra Club campaigns. She has republished the songbook she created for the workshop for use by this year's teachers. She has also made 60 audiotapes of the songs in the book for use by the teachers.
Co teachers this year will include Rev. Ernest Shaw, principal of Johnsonville Elementary (Margibi), Yatta Nroto of Phebe Community School (Bong), Alice Garmo and Emma Tokpa, Sugar Hill Community School (Bong), Principal Stanley Z. Bembo of George A. Dunbar (Nimba) and J. Theophilus Frankyu, WVS Tubman Elementary (Bassa).
At the midpoint in the new workshop, all past participants are invited back for a "Forum" on LEAP teaching. "The aim is to have teachers see each other as resources of new ideas and adaptations of old ones," said Pat Reilly, coordinator of the workshop. "LEAP has the potential to become a cooperative of quality early childhood education for Liberia. It's already making a difference in the way teachers view their work."
