Communities Nurturing Children helps build another school

The Sugar Hill School at Gbarnga, built from an old market shelter during
the war, to its present campus for grades K-12 with a full range of
vocational activities, is the latest CNC school to be adopted by Friends of
Liberia.
FOL's Communities Nurturing Children (CNC) program assists communities in
their initiatives to improve the lives of their children.
The Sugar Hill buildings are built from mud bricks crafted by students and
community members. The school board requested help with plaster to coat the
walls and prevent erosion during rainy season.
The money for the project was presented to the school board by FOL board
member Beth Holtam on her arrival with the LEAP teachers in late June.
Classes were still in session, so the U.S. teachers shared songs and games
that are taught during the workshop. Two of the school's primary teachers
participated in the LEAP 2000 in-service workshop.
Franklin Siakor, director of the Development Education Network, wrote to
thank all the Friends of Liberia, and say that the faculty and board of the
school were proud to show teachers the pile of sand waiting for vacation so
the work of plastering and installing ceilings could start.
